noisy altezza

okie you bunch of auto-heads i gots a noisy problem. When driving along engine makes a fairly loud squeekity rattely noise, which goes away when i put the clutch in.
Also i get another noise like a louder squeaky rattle noise, sounds a bit like detonation when engine is under low rev load, soon as the engine reaches where say i have the throttle (half throttle whatever) noise goes away.

how many kms? changed plugs recently? run 98?

first noise sounds like it could be release bearing or gearbox bearing

its obviously something to do with that area so short of taking it to a mechanic you'll need to pull the box out and have a look!

its reaching 90000 kms
havnet changed the plugs, its something im gonna get round to doing. Always run 98 octane.

bearing problem was what i was thinking, engine squeaks in neutral, stops when clutch goes in

Flywheel spring maybe? Might tighten up enough when loaded to shut it up.

Very common problem on Altezza's especially once they get over about 80K. It's more than likely as noisy release bearing or possibly the spigot bearing. Nothing major just a hassle to change which is why most people don't until the do the clutch.

i havnt dealt with too many dodgy thrust bearings, but the ones i have made noise when clutch disengaged.... not the other way around

how many ks it done? and has it had a clutch? flywheel?

near 90k on the clock, dunno if the clutch fly was ever done, i havent touched it when i got the car

Ah true. Flywheel then?

Duel mass types don't take much abuse & you don't know how it was treated by the previous owner.

listen carefully for any noises when starting it
often on the diesel dualmass wheels you can hear them rattle when starting
noises are very hard to diagnose over the internet!

i got a funny feeling the car was prolly raced a bit in japan, like a weekend racer or something. If i haveta change a bearing ill prolly get the clutch changed as well. I hope i dun havta change the flywheel, thatll be lot more costly, not so good with limited funds.

Had mechanics have a look, looks like fly needs to be changed, def clutch will haveta be changed. The cluch slave was wobbling a little bit when idling, so something inside there is out of balance, and the noise would start when the mechanic would move it a bit. So off i go and price up a new fly wheel and clutch kit from toyota.

450 for clutch kit
1117 for TRD solid fly wheel
seeing a grown man cry at toyota priceless

hit up brendan at A1 turbos he might have a flywheel solution for you

he had a 3SGE in his AE85 for a while and sells quite a few custom parts - bellhousings, flywheels for 1UZ manual conversions etc

local company here i found out makes flys for tezzas, $750. That was quoted threw toyota as well, so if i knew where it comes from i could maybe get it a lil cheaper

I got my Ultra Light JUN flywheel through 41 automotive (I got a really good deal so won't mention the price) talk to them as they often have deals on and give discount to club members too..
