AE111 20V 4A-GE Oil - Quick and Simple

Postby Kittah » Tue May 05, 2009 1:22 pm

My new AE111 has just hit 150,000km and I'm going to change the oil, filter et cetera. What grade of engine oil would you recommend?

Cheers to both of you. I'll go with 10 or 15, as I don't know if it uses any yet, but I'll remember if it does end up using some for the following oil change :)

Get genuine, they are 100x better, and construction wise it has got better seal that will never stay behind on the block.

I was actually thinking of opting for a TRD oil filter, but failing that I'll definitely go with genuine.

In terms of oil, I was thinking of going with something along the lines of Redline 10W40. Does anyone recommend one brand in particular?

I just used Castrol Magnatec or GTX. Seemed to be ok.

Any fully synthetic 10w-30 or 10w-40 will do with api of sl or sm

I highly recommend going into the new supercheap auto store in Albany and getting sum nulon 10w-30 its good shyt.

I use, and have done for 5 or so years Magnatec and Fram filter. Currently running a genuine filter, but only got it as I ordered other parts.

My engine uses a bit of oil too, but doesn't worry me, the oil does the trick so i'm not changing what works.

I never ran a fully synthetic oil in my Blacktop. Didn't see the point in spending the extra cash.

Gonna go for 20w50 In mine next change and try a genuine filter too.
Currently using 15w40 and it's used about 1.5L in the time since it went in, that included a trackday which used about half of that

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Isn't 20W50 a bit too thick for the blacktop? I use 20w50 in my old school torana, that being 31 years old, and it is well recommended not to use such a rated viscosity in a modern day engine as it will not flow through the oil ways effectively

my ae111 manual (though 4afe) says different
it recommends 20-50 for iirc -4 upwards
next is 15-40 for cooler temps
i ran 20-50 in my silvertop for years, hardly used any oil whereas 15-40 used noticeably more

30-40 is the old school tank oil!

I use magnatec in what ever weight (15w-40?) the retail packs are, i'd like to get it in the 10w-40, but i haven't seen it sold in anything less than the huge drums.

I like the fram filters too, i'm running a genuine at the moment, but I seem to have less trouble with the fram's.

yeah the seals seem to shrink a bit if I leave it sitting for a few weeks and then take it for a blat, doesn't seem to happen with the frams. its not a biggy, just has a hot oil on exhuast type smell for a few mins every now & then.
