Postby Brawler » Mon Feb 14, 2011 7:42 pm

Hey guys

Ok so Got another celica xx, has a W55 gearbox, it has a crunch into 2nd gear and I was wondering what my options would be to fix that.

Have heard of a wonder oil you can replace the fluid with that can help it.

also I have no idea how gearboxs work So what would need to be replaced? the syncros?

yup auto trans fluid. nah not the whole lot just start off with a bit in there and keep adding it until it stops crunching. john (CGXPWR) is the king of making crunchy gearboxes un-crunchy for quick dodgy sales. :P

i have drained some c52 boxes that have had ATF in them. as far as I'm aware it's just a higher purity oil with less additives? It seems to work if the box is not too bad to start with

50/50 of ATF and your normal manual gearbox fluid is supposed to work wonders.

Personally prefer to run Redline shock proof.

I tried the moreys in my old gearbox when it was on its last legs. quitened the bearing noise but made it near impossible to change gears without crunches. (350,000k c52)

yeah i'd probably start with 25/75 atf and the rest normal trans fluid then if that doesn't work go to 50/50 and see what happens.

seems to work well in C52's :P

Re: W55 gearbox crunch - how to remedy

The info is on the ToyMods forum, I can't be arsed searching for it so I'll leave that up to you. Shifter bushes for the W58, that should be enough to get you started. There's a white bush and a green bush, and the part numbers for both are listed.

First replace the gear stick green seat cup and the gear stick white nylon bush

Yup, redline lightweight shockproof is the best oil I've used so far.

Another thumbs up for redline shockproof here.

According to my gearbox man, ATF is a bad idea in toyota boxes because it's bad for the cones.

I will probally just take the ATF back to repco, its probably gonna cause more issues in the long run,.,,.

i will give redline a go, as well as a shifter bush change
