Vacum leak problem for brakes.

so my car is bluetop 4age, idel temperature running low at 60c,normal driving only goes up to 70.

doesn't any any cooling problem, if there is only two things I know could resulting this, the sensor? which is unlikely.

trying to get some trd thermostat, but trade price is 150+, really?

Done!



Now, got to fix a vacum leak for my brakes, every time I brake my engine revs up and I can hear vacumm leaking nosie every time I turn the engine off. shit.

any ideas?

Dont waste your money on a TRD thermostat, just buy a decent brand (eg Toyota Genuine) standard one. And make sure you get the right temperature one unless you like high motor wear and high fuel bills.

Might have a TRD thermostat in there now if it stays that cold. Could explain why your car uses so much fuel

As for buying a TRD one, they are designed for racing situations I imagine, not just driving to the shops and back. So if anything will do more harm than good as mentioned.

Yeah your local toyota branch should stock that sort of thing, I don't imagine it being much. Never priced one up myself though. Just give them a call if you don't have time to pop in.

I had to buy one for my car at Blenheim Toyota, forgot to get it for my freshen up when we dropped the motor.

Thermostat and gasket TGP.

I'd NEVER get a thermostat from from the dealer, just like I'd never get wiper blades, battery, tires, oil, alternator, starter, hoses(except for factory only heater stuff), belts, plugs & plug wires!
That TRD thermostat is beyond belief.

Thermostat is one of the things I would definitely buy genuine.
The quality of aftermarket ones is shocking - they would fail after 1 year or so (usually stuck open).

ah, well, I'd be emailing Toyspeed Sponsor Mark ... and getting a genuine Toyota one from him.

In fact, that's exactly what I did this morning.

Learnt my lesson. Had an AE92 running cold. Bought repco thermostat. Ran exactly as cold. Bought TGP one off Toyspeed sponsor, car warmed up to normal nice and fast then stayed there.

Nothing worse than having a problem, buying a cheap part to fix it and them when it doesn't work you still have no idea is that part is the problem or not.

Put a decent one in there and know that that part is now not the problem,
rather than save $5 or whatever.

i've fitted heaps of aftermarket thermostats and never had a problem that wasnt of my own making (didnt bleed it properly or w/e)

that being said its typically tridon, which are pretty similar (retail price wise at least) to genuine - so why wouldnt you get genuine in this case.

yep that's what i paid for too, good deal consider aftermarket ones are 30+ a set anyway.

was a mission to get the thing changed, had to adjust the starter motor. but yeh done, car warms up very quckly. the old one was stack at open.

that sucks, brake booster? these things don't brake often do they?

I am thinking on vacuum lines etc. what you mean by valves?

This. In my GTZ I went through a CPC and a Tridon thermostat before buying genuine which lasted way longer. The other ones lasted a month or two then my car would run cold. Now I only buy genuine.

There's a one way check valve that will be inline/inside the vacuum line going to your brakebooster. Make sure air goes one way (toward the engine) and not the other way.

Its a bluetop 4age, so its like 25ish years old. Shit is going be failing quite regularly.

brake boosteris the big round black thing on the firewall of the engine bay behind the brake fluid resv.

There will be a vacuum line going from the brake booster to the manifold, somewhere in that line is a one way valve that should stop air leaking back into the booster after the engine has sucked it out. Make sure it works.
