Looking at getting a short shifter for my AE111, someone was saying that Nite Parts do one for $150, but i cant find your number/address/if you still do them... And are those ones for $99 from NZPC (few months ago) really bollocks?

i have been trying to get one of those 99 dollar ones from fbi but apparently they missed the shipment or something?? still waiting.

would be good to no if they are all custard

I brought a $99 one from Fbi for my primera and it improved the shift and shortened the throw nicely. Not sure about the toyota ones though

You can get a genuine TRD short shift kit for your 111 from Bruce at Sollitt Trading in Wellington (TRDsales.com). There are two listed from A) 05/1995 Part No 33530-AE100 includes gear knob or B) 04/1997 Part No 33539-AE120 doesn't include knob. The latter one is for the 6 speed manual and I find that it works very well. By the way the cost for a new 6 speed knob is over $450 so superglue the F**KING thing on if you have one!!!! I bought one of those '1993+ corolla short shifters' for my ae82 and all I had to do was swap those little white plastic thingies with the ones off my factory shifter. Its quicker and smoother but im still tempted to chop it. A better idea would be to take the factory shifter into a machine shop and get them to move the pivot/ball further up the shifter and maybee chop a bit off the top aswell. BTW a common rule for trd prices is to find a price you would usually expect to pay and tripple it!!

anyone know anywhere on the shore that would change mine (ae101) into a short shift by moving the pivot point? im not 100% sure on what is required to do this so dont want to give it a go. willing to pay around $100 or something. anyone found any cheap ones (even the mitsi boys can get them for $99 new :evil:

) we must be able to source them cheap somewhere other than trd ones

guy down here with an ae101 simply cut the top off his and moved the knob down as suggested above, works fine aparently, it was quite low too :lol:

I got a short shifter for my ae101 for $99 from http://www.drivenperformance.co.nz/ Had it in for ages and i would never go back to factory shifter.

I got one from there and the length of it is the same as factory

the only change it has init is it dosnt have the fitting holes for the notch system, doubt it moved the shift point.... tempted to cut and weld it since im in ham and not gona be near FBI for awhile, I pm'd the guys and they would give me store credit if I took it back.

the 6 speed knob is no where near the above price.... and those TRD prices quoted are extremely exsessive.... you know where to go.....

and the fact that a proper short shifter does not mean the height of the gearstick is shorter...just the throw.
While in some ways cutting the stick does reduce the throw, a correct shifter keeps the stick tall and easier to reach from the steering wheel, whilst reducing the throw. In a real race situation, keeping hands close to the wheel is pereferable compared to reaching an extra 3 inches away to the slick clut quick shifter.

The difference between people that have actually had a proper quickshifter and the imitators :lol:

having done this back in the day and also having owned a genuine TRD short shifter and a custom made one, there is absolutely no comparison between a short throw shifter and a cut down pig...

Any good engineering shop should be able to cut, mod and reweld a standard stick to adjust the pivot point

Sup guys, i can get a short shift for 1990 corolla onwards. will this fit. and are they fairly easy to put in. If not, how much approx am i looking at, and what kinda places can do this (general mechanic? i know taking it to a performance place will be rather pricey.... cheeers)
