by the time u rebuild an engine, get a gze box/driveshafts, etc etc, there is a very healthy 4agze engine (ae101) think with loom and box for sale at $1800 and only done 3500kms!!! it was advertised on here not long ago.

$1800 and only done 3500kms

how many ks???

for $1800 you can get a 20v, rebuild it with good bits and still have $$ left over for box and axles. if your doing the work yourself or have someone who'll do it cheap. the only times id recomend starting with a gze is if you already have one, or have to pay for ALL the work

the point is 9 time out of 10 its cheaper and better in the long run to convert something else rather than try and find a 4agze.

doing that gives you an engine that you KNOW will handle what your planning, rather than something with an unkown history.

yes 3500kms!!!! when i worked at herbert fab he got it bought in from japan, he was going to put it into a drag mini, but then decided he wanted a v8 instead, so this other guy i knew bought it.
I think he would of pulled it apart to check it etc.

LSD boxes are $650 2nd hand!! then u got the axles then u basically got only $1000 left for a engine, rods, pistons, bolts, head gasket, bearings, labour, ecu. hmmmm

well its going into a starlet so that cancels out the box part of this scenario making the 16v/20v option the best one.
but even so, if you dont have a gtz to start with your better off starting with something else, buying a gtz to get all the bits is too exspensive, they arent worth the extra grand just to get the pistons. just try finding a front cut as you mentioned. then see what they want for it! my guess is $2-2500 easy if not $3k
and when doing it properly an aftermarket ecu is best, youll get far more from it than from a stock ecu, so that cancels that. not saying you cant get good results from a stock ecu, just a tunable one will let you get more from ya mods

1000 left for a engine, rods, pistons, bolts, head gasket, bearings, labour, ecu. hmmmm

there ya go....

im not trying to diss 4agzes, i love em. they just arnt as different from non s/c as ppl think. definitly not different enough to warrant the extra $$ ppl want for them
