That's the point... At first glance you wouldn't notice. But when you side by side it you'll go... "Hey... that's not normal."

crnkin wrote:I reckon it looks sweet. mint. Badass even. if i was from wellington id say hard out.
I'm not so sure I like that trueno. The ute is cool. Very cool. The notchie trueno... No I wouldn't go that far... Subtle, not savage...

strap-on wrote:And listen to richie, if he says that his head hits the roof in his trueno, anyone taller than gimli will too
I should be fine then. But seriously. There is bucket loads of space for me. My head doesn't get anywhere near my roof in my Levin. And that's with a higher seating position too.

Can do.

But in all honesty. You're gonna have to make me a pretty stupid offer. I spent a long and hard time trying to find a complete AE85 that was being sold for what it was actually worth. And let's just say, I got my moneys worth with this one...

1984 AE85
red
stuff alternator regulator
buggered uni-joint in the tailshaft
brakes need a really good service
clutch needs adjustment (probably new plate too)
3AU (need I say more)
manual (box sounds and feels nice and health)
big-as dent in passengers rear quarter (previously bogged to kingdom come)
was a trueno but I have swapped all the trueno parts for levin bits
mad rust issue on the passengers A pillar area (plus plenty of other surface rust areas.)
some issues with the wiring (lights and wipers would flick on if I hit the right bump)
stock as a rock
very tired interior

Car has done something like 200,000+kms. Can check.

I think that pic is your answer right there dude, it just doesnt look good....

Oh and remember a cert COULD require you to get a cage, which might affect your headroom a bit...

I wouldn't pay more than $1.2k for that, I'll go back on bidding that tidy AE85 on trademe, thanks.

Cert won't require a cage, its either built right or its not. If its not a cage wont fix it.

Wouldn't matter. The car will be a race vehicle. So at least a half cage anyway, possibly a full cage depending on the events that I decide to do.
Oh, and the headroom argument... I have a half cage in my current AE85 and I've done all the measurements using that car...
So everyone can stop saying "you might not have enough head room". I'm short, and I'm measuring off my current car which has a half cage and seats with a higher seating position.
Height is not an issue for me. And I don't care about passengers. That's their problem if they're tall.

At the end of the day its your car to do whatever you want with.
$$ wise you will spend s shitload on glass etc, more than the cars worth.
If its to be a race car, i's spend the cash/time on things that would benefit more than a roof chop personally.
It will look different but.
Cant believe im still a member here.

forgot to say... that's significantly more than I paid for it (and I feel a little ripped off too). It just goes to show how these things have become viciously overpriced.

But no I'm not really interested in selling it.

If I do end up building it into a race car (which is the plan, but we all know how this goes) then it will definitely get the good stuff too. But different is the desired effect.
