$500 budget, I'd actually do a whiteline adjustable rear sway bar. Probably the single biggest way to change a front drive Corolla's handling to make it think it is a rear wheel drive Corolla

(totally guessing what car you drive by looking at your avatar).

I think my best bet is to sort out the air filter/box situation and get some blacktop extractors. Are those a straight swap with the silvertop ones?

On the ECU part, is it just plug and play or do you need to get it tuned by someone like speedtech also? $250 is pretty damn good, second hand?

So with the Blacktop extractors, would those be a straight swap out, bolt up? Also would it be worth wrapping them in exhaust wrap (whatever you call it)

yes bt 4-2 just bolt on.

You will have trouble finding a M/T plugin ecu, the one I had was stickered inside saying the rom was flashed in 1997. The two oners who ave had it since me have been very happy.
