Piston Slap?

piston slap is caused by having excess clearance in the bores, either by having worn bores, or collapsed piston skirts, or having forged pistons which require a lot more piston to bore clearance, due to the expansion rates. (Or you own a Subaru)
The skirt of the piston hits the side of the bore on the power stroke, as the piston is on the way down after ignition.

Just to swerve off topic a bit. Ive heard a lot of rattley subaru's, always thought it was the bigends or something else bot to fuk ot. Why the fuk are they so rattley??

From what I hear about the Sub's, it the lifters in the head,
which when they get bad enough means new heads are required.

Having said that they never seem to acctually break, just get horribly noisy
