ooops my bad, MEK is the cleaner, MEKP is catalyst.
too much catalyst with make it 'go-off' faster, but will be weak . far too much will be weak, purple and generate a fair bit of heat..

If you go to one of the car stereo outlets to find out the material that they use for the sub boxes etc that would be ideal. It is a sort of stretchy fabric that they staple to the shape they want before they apply the fiberglass. I was going to find out what they use as I need to do a lot of free form shaping to the interior of my car by using the foam and fiberglassing me new dash and interior panels.

Hot mixes are fine as long as you don't put way too much catalyst in. Its not that weak if you work within the ratios i have stipulated.

You can use fleece from the warehouse for shaping - nice and cheap during winter :)

I'll be going to bunnings or a mitre 10 etc to get some mdf to make the basic frame and then probably spotlight for some stretchy material.

I bought this stuff:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =161627866

"4lt of fibreglass resin it comes with polyester catalyst."

Does that mean it'll shrink because of the polyester catalyst? I assume its the same stuff they have on their website:

http://www.totalbodyshop.co.nz/product_ ... ucts_id=38

However on their website it says "non-shrinking". What is wrong with stuff that shrinks? Could I crack as its setting or???

Its polyester resin. It means you can make a slightly hotter mix but it will shrink slightly.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just remember that your working time with resin is approx 30 mins.

If the resin doesn't set, then make a hot mix and add a layer of resin on top.

Just be sure that before applying any adhesive for the cosmetic layer that you get the shiny surface off by sanding. Finding any amount of that stuff, I would hit up a local boat builder... the amount that we throw out is insane, and if its just chopstrand that you using patches rather than a one whole piece aren't going to make it weaker. Also try to get the resin onto the job as fast as you can... it will cook in no time if left in a pot.
