Should of gotten real exhaust system, but I bet it is worth more than your car.
Sorry to be so negative.

Were you born a c**t or is it something you worked towards through life? So what if he got a "fart cannon"? It's his car and his money he can put whatever he wants to put on it. Maybe he only wanted it for the sound - did that thought cross your mind at all? Don't mean to come across as an asshole but I have a habit of doing that. If you don't have any helpful answers to people's questions please do the world a favor and say nothing at all. No one asked for opinions of the best bang for buck way of gaining performance.

thanks for the replies, to be honest i hated the sound that my celica used to make, it sounded so tinny and crap.

Now it sounds great but like you say, its the sound that attracts the police which is the downside but now the carbons building up, its quieting down a wee bit :?

Im not going nuts on performance, just want something nice to drive round in thats comfortable, looks good and sounds nice.

I admit theres no point of tuning a ST183, but its not a hugely expensive mod 8)

No one asked your opinion on my advise.
Putting loud exhaust, just because of noise is not doing anyone favours.
In my opinion, my advise is helpful. I rather him not do my mistakes (in wasting money on pointless mods).
At least it has some information value.

Have a cry :)

He didn't buy his car to do you favours. He bought his car because he likes it and he put a bigger exhaust tip/muffler on it because he wanted to.

In my opinion, my advise is helpful. I rather him not do my mistakes (in wasting money on pointless mods).

It's not a pointless mod. He didn't like how his car sounded and he wanted to get rid of the tinny 3sge sound and he has achieved that by installing the muffler he chose. That sounds like a success to me.

At least it has some information value.

You told the guy to sell his car and buy something else. All he wanted to know was how to get an aftermarket muffler installed on his car. Not how to get x amount of power from an NA and what car to buy to achieve that. Your reply had no useful information whatsoever on the matter.

What was the point of your post? Calling me a c**t?

The point of my post was to tell you to let the guy do whatever he wants with his car and his money. I may not necessarily like what he did either but it's his car and his choice. Coming along and telling the guy that an exhaust is worth more than his entire car is just taking a dig for no reason at all. What was the point of that?

its not so loud that it wakes the neighbours, its just changed the tone and made it deeper.

Also i dont rev the f**k out my engine so im not going to annoy anyone.

to be honest, its only a wee bit louder than the stock one, the old one did really echo, its now more softer.

And its now becoming a wee bit quieter due to the carbon building up and i always leaver the silencer twisted in the close position.

I do understand where you are coming from though

plus the exhaust cost $210 including fitting it

Lol

No more arguing guys, PM if you need to continue it, don't ruin the guys thread with rubbish. I agree with some of the points of the arguments, but that doesn't make it right to post it in his thread

Nice looking muffler, though I prefer ones that don't have yucky bolt in spacers i'm sure it will do the trick 8)

I found with running my silencer for too long it just carboned up to hell and I started getting really poor economy. Might want to take it out and clean it every once in a while.

Most wof places will ask for you to go and get an objective noise test at that volume.

I passed mine at 94.2dB with no silencer.

Yeah, depends on where you go though. My GT4 scraped through it's last WOF with a single-bolt bolt in silencer, he even failed it without a silencer bolted in. Although in saying that, I was at 96dB before silencer and dropped to below 86-88dB after putting it in.

Really depends on where you go, but I do think I'll be getting a slightly quieter exhaust system before the next WOF is due.

I had my silencer tacked in in 3 places last wof, they said they wont accept that anymore as its now deemed still too easy to modify to take it out, that was at vtnz, can only assume they have the same muppets thinking for them right around the country.
Ended up having to fit the standard system again to pass,

2 bolt flange in the exhaust plus the mounting bracket for the muffler is all I need to swap now, makes it easy

Hey, at least it sounds like a 3s.

Only time I've ever been there was when I took my first car for the first WOF after buying it :P.

Never been back. And probably never will unless I really need to do so. :P

really, i wont take my car there for a WOF then.

If it fails, i have kept my old exhaust to get welded back on or i might look into getting a resonator fitted, see how it goes :?

I DID fail the WOF without the silencer, plus on another couple of things (wheel play, and split rack boot). But none the less, fixed the other problems, wacked in the silencer, and got the WOF. I'm going to be lining up another exhaust system before the next WOF though, I know I won't be likely to pass with the single bolt silencer next time.
