I was considering a MS for a project of mine. Ive always wanted to wire in a tunable ecu and have a crack at tuning it myself..

Do you know why the tuners above wont touch Megasquirts? that seems odd, im just curious to know why they wont..

no idea, they are easier to tune than something like a power fc. but if your going to spend 1200, i'd spend a little more and buy a link. ms3 may win on paper over say a g4 storm. but the link just works better and easyer

In your opinion for somebody wanting to learn to tune EFI would a megasquirt be somewhat user friendly or easier to tune compared a Link? Is the mapping easier to set up with MS??

Im dead keen to learn how to tune efi, reason I was looking at a MS. There just seems to be lots of online help and a good forum for Megasquirt.

Seriously looking at doing an STM tuning course..

imo link g4 software is far better than tunerstudio (megasquirt). easier and nicer to work with

the basic's of it are the same for most ecu's software. you have a rpm vs load map thrown in front of you, for both fuel and ignition. where you will spend most of the time tuning. from there they all go off on the own little tangent for all the setup stuff, trims, outputs/inputs etc.

so once you have the basics sorted, it isn't a huge deal to switch to a different ecu. matter of finding you way around the software. tuner studio kinda annoyed me as they have abbreviated alot of it. eg: you have things like "WUE". (warm up enrichment) with not alot of easy assessable help. all good once you know. but link or the likes would just straight out say "warm up enrichment" and have good help feature.

you right there is a heap of online help for megasquirt. but sifting through it and finding the answer you want, usually isn't as easy as it sounds.

ive done ms1, 2 & 3 but have gone back to link even though they cost more, just because i can wire it in, start it, tune it. all without drama.

ms can be good though, as sometimes you have no option but to learn how it all works. so you can make it work!

happy to give advice, if you need to know anything. just because i like to see people doing stuff themselves. rather than the too hard basket

thanks for the Long informative reply.

Ok thats good to know, I may look at another Link then.

The software on the g4 looks pretty impressive and I dont think Ill build the ecu myself more interested in wiring it in and tuning. My new project is a little way off but I may well keep you in mind if I need some advice.
