How do i put the car into test mode? (and what is test mode?)

surely if its slipped a tooth this will show on any timing check using a light?

*edit* no course it wouldn't cos its timed from crank

Looks like it hasn't slipped a tooth on the camshafts, both look to be in the same position.

Will try and get hold of a timing light and check this week.

The exhaust smells a little of fuel as I mentioned before, wondering with the carbon deposits I saw on the plugs it could be rich?

Would there be any use in checking the MAP sensor or 02 sensor?

On an OBD1 car you would put a wire between E1 and TE1 pins in the diagnostics port and it will set the ECU to base timing but as the Caldina uses OBD2 and has no distributor I'm not 100% sure how to do that.

Managed to get Torque app working with the data port now, haven't managed to put it into test mode but took it for a drive whilst logging sensors etc.

Timing whilst at idle was 14 degrees at 1035 RPM whilst idling warm. Not sure if this is any help, will try get a reading when its in test mode
