You bought a fully configured ADL? Thats a fairly serious outlay! I was more making the minor point that receiving a string of digits for your money doesn't 'seem' like a nice trade; it makes perfect engineering sense :)

Mmm, yeah there have been a lot of dash's released lately - I see the AiM one is doing well. Different markets come into it - the LinkDash isn't designed as a standalone product, more as an add on to your Link system. However it does have datalogging + playback. We shall see I guess.

Not quite fully configured, didn't go for the Dual Lambda,Telemetry or Pro analysis options, though I probably add the Pro Analysis option so I can get track mapping for the race car. Still a sizeable investment though and more than most on here would spend buying a car 8O

Then you already have a ready made market, though it's a pity it doesn't have logic or outputs, that would make it a far more useful tool. But I guess that would move you out of the price range for the target market.

And my reasonably accurate telemetry system cost me $90, logs for 3 days constantly before I have to pull into the pits, and download via WiFi. Trackmaps easily, and is perfectly suited to my needs. But for you roundy rounders (yawn) it wont show you line deviation.

The ADL dash system would be totally and absolutely useless for my application. My $125 PDA and $90 GPS and a bit of time spent with Java has generated a solution far better suited to my specific needs.
It’s the correct tool for the job. Price was certainly a consideration. I could have gone the Race Technology DL1, Motec and radio telemetry and received a similar solution (although I think I would still need an ADL to get out of bounds alerts?). However I evaluated my specific needs, removed the toys, and produced a very cheap solution which fulfilled my requirements and still retained some wank factor.

My approach is more akin to the way I buy Computer Hardware. I don’t buy a five year warranty, I don’t upgrade and I don’t buy the latest toy. Next year I’ll augment my array of computers with another machine, which meets my needs, from the selection of Dells from the Warehouse. You may buy the fastest processor, have a tonne of RAM and a stupidly quick graphics processor. But at the end of the day, your no quicker at running business applications than I am, but you may be able to beat me at the latest game.
