Not sure if its the same for silver tops, but on blacktops the factory computer is too smart for these piggy back devices and they lose their tune so to speak

I got flow figures for both ST and BT.
The BT Out flows it by miles!
People have tried to port the ST head and work it well but it just cant flow due to the angles of the ports and hitting water jackets etc.
Lynn Rodgers tried to do a ST and work the head heaps but it just couldn't be done. Well it was done but the results were no where near as good as you can get the 16v head.

Went something like this
BT inlet 210cfm
ST Inlet 16XCFM

BT Ex 145CFM
ST Ex 130CFM

I still stand that a BT will make loads more power than a ST after seeing many attempts and dyno plots in the racing community that most of us wouldn't even hear of :D.

Just get a 2zzge :D

did a convertion for a friend. silvertop in ae111. he run a bearing in the BT.

convertion was heart of motor ST
BT extrators, throttle bodies, intake, computer, everything elce realy. only changed the "long block" to ST.

I got to drive it once, but man, did it fly! before the convertion the clutch was on its way out (yet still able to hold) with the change it would slip HARD in second gear, forget nailing it in top. (yes, adjustment of clutch was fine). it certainly wanted me to put BT throttle bodies on my ST ae101. no way did this lose bottom end, or mid range.

yet, with a computer like the BT has, it simply took advantage of the package.
compression is less so can hold a higher ignition advace before knock pulls timing.
bigger flowing throttle bodies and exhause system leave the head/cams to be the limiting airflow issue. also state of engine (unknown kays) so no history and wasnt torn down or freshen up.

more proved the BT computer, or more the package deal is a better unit than ST.

Put it simply, it was a mutant.
Pitty the owner was too and crashed the thing

No they are easy to tune so long as you have a basic knowledge of tuning and are patient enough to experiment with you tune and not push the car untill you get it bang on.
Best thing is you can get all the software for free off the net.

So how do they work? What do you have to do to install them?
