Are you kidding? This is the best thread I've seen on Toyspeed all year.

Look forward to hearing the solution.

Another thought. Can you get at the hinge bolts through from the back seat? Or the latch bolts.....
See ya

Yeah, forgot to update this as I was so happy to get it sorted. Ha.

Ended up getting the hinge bolts off, lifting the boot up from the end thats closest to the rear windscreen and then undoing the latch bolts and taking the boot off completely.

Dunno how to explain it but part of the latch mechanism popped out of place (metal rod held into plastic bit that turns when metal rod is pulled). Popped it back in place, cable tied it as a measure to keep it from happening again. Put it all back together and now I have a boot that works.

Never been so happy to see a boot open.. weirdest feelings ever.

Ha, I wish I could agree. However IMHO... it's far from the best... It may be up there now as it's been solved though.

How did you get access to the bolts for the hinges?

From the backseats somehow, can't remember as it was a decent amount of time ago. Just took off bolts that attach bootlid to the hinges and lifted the back of the bootlid up to gain access to the front where the popping mechanism is, popped it open, rebolted to hinges, reacttached the cable and was done with it : :)
