A rear-wheel drive muscle Levin/Trueno would be phat. Love the shape. Love raw power.

My friend had a starlet and he bought a factory starlet V8 engine, apparently in the early 80's they brought out racing starlets or something. not sure if its true but it was from a reputable source and he had the engine to prove it. The sad thing is, he never got round to fitting it so I never saw it in action.

He said that there were only a few made , as in a few he means less than ten variants on the same design. They were NZ assembled and used a Rover v8. They were really unreliable and weren't safe so couldn't be used on the road. In the end they abandoned the project. The reason my friend found out about it was cause his dad used to work for Toyota back in the 80's.

Still not right. AFAIK there was never a factory project using a Rover V8. The V8 Starlet as used by Trevor Crowe and later on sold to Rodger Freeth was very reliable and IIRC used a Buick V8 or it could have been a Rover with Buick internals, as they are the same basic engine.
Thsi car dominated the class for several years and I can't recall any reliability issues. So I will call BS on this developing urban legend.

Yeah, what I am saying is they were experimenting with it but it was never put into production. I think the test cars were probably scrapped as well. Yeah I agree with what you are saying about Trevor Crowe's Starlet I am just quoting what someone said and they worked for Toyota but then again they may be lying but I don't really know. You don't have to trust second hand info its just theres no reason for it not to be true, if someone made it up they wouldn't gain anything from it so thats why I don't really know. Also I wasn't even born in the early 80's so I wouldn't know anyway, its not my information so don't beat me up about it. Ok.
