Postby lvn_mr2 » Mon Jan 05, 2004 6:55 pm

I heard on the international mr2 forums that someone has a aw11 rotary. so i kinda went awol and i'm kicking the idea round of TRYING to do this conversion. can the gearbox stay on the passengers side? thinking of going 13b. anyone got some tips to look out for? is it even possible???

thanks guys

im gunna use my C-51 or what eva it is. was just wondering if the rotor spins the right way...but if its in a mini i guess it must. haha the rotary exhaust port is ment to block the drive shaft...but hey a aw11 only drive on the passengers side shaft so who needs the driverside one??

i guess you could but would need to mount it east west so the exhaust isnt where the gearbox is

come to think of it why, MR2's wouldnt suit a rotor at all

two reasons:

1) SC power just aint enough for me...i also have a 89 SE

2) my other SC is buggered (engine wise) and theres no other aw round with a rotor so y not? think of the power? and weight savings?

i would atleast be able to either reccoment it or not!!! and it would be a first :D

the fwd 323, done by lawton rotorsport and last i heard they're not telling. won't even let people get engine bay pics, which is fair enough in my opinion. it must've been a hell of a job and its always more fun to have the only one of something.

yes they spin the same way, as for blocking the drive shaft-maybe try offsetting the adapter plate you'll be needing so the engine is rotated and the exhaust ports are above(or below whichever fits best) the driveshaft.

hahah yeah was a fun 10 mins ;)

I sold most of the bits off including manifold and turbo which was basically ready to go with oil feed and all.

V6 would be the way to go. and a Charger on that would make it even more insane! :o

And as far as the turbo goes.. i didnt really have any help from anyone :P all my workings :P

the FWD Mini is actually two Mini's cut slightly wider than in half, then welded together (so as to be wider than a normal Mini), and is using a Corona ST150 gearbox hanging off the side of a 12A as far as I recall.

It's definitely FWD if it's the one I think you are talking about.

fwd mini

Postby Ganjasaur » Tue Jan 06, 2004 3:28 pm

yea the mini that is in the hamilton car club is fwd and is one hell of a car. But is running a 12a. I would say you will have mega traction problems with a 13b in a AW. But hey u will be original :D

completely off the rotor subject....but sticking to the mini

theres a guy somewhere in west auck that has put a b16a vtec in a mini...

and i head rumours of a guy in south auckland with a 4wd 13b mazda hatch. he'd designed and built his own 4wd system for it.....food for thought

Actually, there are a couple of B16A Mini's around... bit of a mission and a half from the looks of things though. Makes for a sump that is awfully close to the ground!
