LSD Help

Postby XTHIEF » Fri Apr 02, 2004 8:20 pm

I am looking to buy a LSD for my EP71 1988 Starlet. I thinking TRD or Cusco. Which would be better. Opinions?

ditto. uncle Bruce is gonna kill me for asking but anyways.

are the TRD units any better( not just becuase they come with a shiny sticker to put on your car) than the Cusco units. Cusco supply 2 types, a spring and plate and a cone and plate.

Does any one have REAL feedback on either of the 3 options?

thanks

depending on if you are a muti-millonare i would go for TRD " they are not that dare anyway " there are two types one is a plate type " very good " and the other is a viscus type like the ones that come out factory in the AE101 GT-Z
ring the TRD shop in the hut they will help you

FLAWLES, real feedback required as the 2 brands are very similar in price for the unit i enquired about. whether this is across the range , i don't know, but for the early AE86 the Cusco is actually cheaper.

not quite.... there are two types of trd lsd.
one is a plate clutch type the other is a helical gear type. only the plate one is available for the ep71
for the rwd lexus/chaser etc there is a selectable type clutch lsd where you can adjust it while still in the car.
i can do the TRD for the ep71 for around $1350-1400 to your door

I can't tell you much about the Cusco item, whereas we have extensive experience with just this item from TRD having run an EP71 Rally car for 5 seasons. TRD LSD worked well & gave no trouble at all.
As official TRD agents for Australia as you would expect we can offer the best price and the backup service.
I've sent a pm.

EP71 Rally car you say... Sounds cool. Which engine are you using? Still retaining the stock 2e-elu I'd guess. PM me if you have any details on setup etc. Kinda EP71 mad myself...

We ran the EP71 from '90 to '94. It ran the 2E EFI engine. We built our own high compression pistons, head gaskets & designed our own cams for it. The car had TRD clutch, TRD LSD & suspension. A good car but limited by the std ECU and the std gearbox.

In'94 we built the country's first EP81 Rally car. This car was homologated with the same engine & box but we installed TRD pistons, cam, headgasket, injectors, ECU, LSD, clutch, close gear kit & final ratio, and anything else we could get our hands on.
As you would expect, a car with this much TRD gear was fantastic straight out of the box & required very little fine tuning at all.

Both cars ran the same TRD LSD and it ran faultlessly for over 50 events in 5 years including 4 Rally NZ's. It's probably still in service today somewhere.

It was soon after building the EP81 that we became NZ's TRD agent and we've sold literally hundeds of TRD LSD's since with very, very few problems.
