condensation in engine

Postby RandomTask » Fri Apr 09, 2004 7:50 pm

just wondering, recently comming into winter, ive noticed alot more "mayonaise" in the oil cap, is it probable that its beacuse of the colder weather/moister air? or just coincidence and i have a blown head gasket(btw, havent noticed any other symptoms)

I'd be suspicious, I never have anything other than oil under the oil cap...

also its a 4k engine(carb'd), i usually get a wee bit, and i've heard most oldish engines do.

also theres no other symptoms of a blown headgasket, still runs just as well/fast, doesnt heat up any quicker, no water on the dipstick etc etc etc

i would seriously look further into that...

sometimes a blown head gasket wont allways show up all the symptoms, replace it anyway and see if it still does it

righto ya'll, replaced it, turns out the water had eroded a hole in the gasket so it went into the head where it should'nt have :o

anyway, it runs sweet now, doesnt seem to heat up as much etc, but the tappets are noisy which i guess is understandable seeing it took the push rods out etc

just one thing im concerned about... when i cranked it over using a ratchet on the crank pulley it made a hissing noise like a tyre being let down... is this normal?

thanks
