Short Shifter installation

Postby Andy from the block » Sun Apr 11, 2004 4:40 pm

I just picked up a short shifter for my AE101 GTZ.
I took out the previous lever assembly but noticed there is a problem.
The plastic C clip thingy is attached to the lever by 2 pins that go thru the plastic and the lever. But on my new short shifter there are no holes to put the pins on :(
Is this gonna be a problem?

Left is the original with the pins were the blue arrows are, on the right is the new lever with arrows were the holes for the pins 'should be'.

Anyone got any advice on what to do?

hey andy, where did you score you short shifter from, was it from PHAT_GTZ or from somewhere else? was the installation easy or was it a bit hard? what did you do to the new lever without holes, did you drill new holes or sumthing? cheers.

the thing with the pins though it basically does nothing at all but make clicking sounds when selecting gears. So just take it off.
The it's easy to fit

The only thing is the plastic ball swival things need to be sanded down as they are to big to fit into the standard cups.

yeah , its all fitted now.
The C thing doesnt do anything, just removed it. No need to drill holes.
The shift is pretty sweet now, only took about 20mins to break in completely.
Installation is reasonably easy, but takes some time and can get pretty measy with the grease etc
Yeah I got it off PHAT GTZ
Boosted GTZ : If u need help installing a short shifter I might lend a hand depending on where u are.

Yeah it feels pretty sweet aye, its basically the same movement but reduced throw distances maybe about 30% or something (total guess)
Just makes it a bit more fun I reckon.

is the length of the stick the same? so the gear knob sits in the same place? or is this shorter as well?

as far as i know the kit is the same as the standard one i.e the stick is the same lenght and every thing is in the same place the only thing diff is the actual throw of the stick
i am talking about the TRD kits though there only $275 from the top of my head ex sollit trafing just got to make sure how many bolt holes hold the assy on ie three or four but there both the same $

no the only difference between these ones u buy here to a standard one is that the length is longer from the big swival ball in the middle to the bottom of the stick, which gives more leverage.
