Gearbox sounds AE101

Postby neo » Mon Apr 26, 2004 12:54 am

Just getting alittle worried about the sounds my gearbox is making..
Its done 115k

You can hear the teeth meshing together (higher rev -higher pitch) so I changed the oil to syntrax, silenced it a bit, but now its back to the old volume. Its the same sound my friends on escort box makes :?

The syncros are getting worn (1,2) and because of the oil when the box is dead cold 2nd will graunch on every change.

Also at 3500 rpm accelerating lightly, decellerating there is a ringing noise, Im thinking a bearing on its way out?

Just wanting some internet advice before it gets thrashed at trackday

yeap, very common problem, its the syncros, the boxes themselves are quite strong and shouldn't break though and you can get them into and out of the affected gear without any hassle but it will remind you

just rape it at trackday, if you bust it i will be very suprised and keep a look out for a good condition (lower kays if you can find them out) C52 or the better geared C56 from a facelift AE101 and AE111
