1F CAP ans to aging electrics...

Postby Stealer Of Souls » Fri May 07, 2004 7:15 pm

Okay... not really a question more a statement...

Just wired a 1 Farad Audio cap in parallel with my dying battery... And now my car starts.... second crank everytime... Starting it used to range from one crank to many seconds cranking to deader than a door knob...

Oh and as a side benefit (although I think it's all in my head) it appears to have made the car run better... possibly due to aging/dying ignition system...

good to know.
COuld be right about the car running better.

I have been looking at getting one for my stereo, but i dont think ill notice the benifits of the car running better, as i have a mans battery in there now.

But the car starts first click now with the new battery.

howver a new battery would be a better fix, and prolly cheaper.

battery cost $320
cap would be half that i would imagine.
And he has sounds so cap is good to have, specially if you have subs and/or running lots of power/current

I picked up this one for $150 including digital readout... It was originally for testing to see if a very little battery and a cap could replace a big battery, and then moved onto audio duties... but my sounds got nicked so it sat under my bed for many months since I was too lazy to stick it in...
The other week I said to myself... stuff it, the batteries getting worse, so lets see if this cap idea is a winner...
So at the moment there are no sounds in my car... But it does start nicely...
And on the face of things... yeah a new battery would have been better, but I had the cap sitting there so thought I'd use it... And if I did buy a battery I wanted to get one of those spiral wound ones that cost like $400... so for me this was cheaper (technically free), and it was a good experiment...
