91 or 96?

Postby Shady_Dan » Wed May 12, 2004 10:14 am

As most of you that know me and have met me in R/L, i Drive a 89 AE92 Levin (apex).

Ive been having this arguement with my fiances brother about what petrol i should put in my car.

Since ive been away in aussie for 12 days, he has been putting 91 in my car, which has me a lil freaked out, cuz since ive had the car ive always put 96 in it ( I was told to put it in by the previous owner who got told when he first bought it to put 96 in it).

Now, i need some clarification here for this.

Its a jap import (came into the country in 1998). im only the 2nd new zealand owner on the car. Ive always been of the mind set, that (apart from turboed/Supercharged cars which need 96 anyway), that if its a NZ new car its not so much of an issue if u put 91 in it, but if its a jap import of a certain year, its a good idea to put 96 in it, cuz the japs have a higher octane of fuel that we do.

If im wrong tell me so, but ive noticed a difference since theres been 91 in it. Normally i can get 300kms off half a tank of 96, but with 91 id be lucky to get that off a full tank!

If its not the petrol problem...is it my car? it doesnt need tuning because it had one done not less than 2 months ago. Injectors maybe?

not sure about the economy part, but i know with my blue top FXGT it used to run HEAPS better on higher octane fuel. 91 made it run like shit and it was economical, but when i ran it on 96 it ran smoother and was noticably quicker and more economical. 98 was even better ;)

hahah its a thought.

Seriously tho, missus is got her eye on one of those Sportpac SP20 mazda familia 4 doors.

$&#$% sexy car but id be damned if i had the money for one.
Might get a 4 door toyota, any suggestion on what i should get? heard the Exiv's are an underrated 4 door car and can be done up quite nicely.

If youve ever seen a white one goin around the place with FATTRD as the number plate, ull know what i mean about underrated, they do look quite nice done up. (and FATTRD isnt Phat T.R.D....its short for fat turd) :P
