ABS brake Problem - Major!

Postby com » Thu May 20, 2004 10:26 pm

Well, today my abs light came on and my brakes almost stopped working completly. I have no idea what to do. My brake pedal has gone all soft and its pulling to one side when accelerating or braking. Inital ABS check-up goes fine when the car is turned on, but once driving the light comes back on. Brakes on the other hand are $&#$% all the time, and they feel like they need some serous bleeding when pressing the pedal.

ANy suggestions/tips you could give me to try.... any clue what could be wrong? Any help much appreciated.

I recently got a new pair of 17' mags fitted.... if that means anything.

:(

Yes I agree it must be a bearing or hub fault because you say accelerating as well as braking which is not just brakes
When you get a bearing collapse the disc leans over and pushes the disc pads into the caliper so when you brake the pedal is all soft as the piston straightens the disc etc back into line.
The light is only to indicate an electrical fault so your wheel sensor is probably causing that by the abs ring moving away from the sensor.
Jack the car up and try to wiggle the front and rear wheels by grabbing the wheel at the top and bottom with each hand and puhing and pulling will show up where the play is ,from what you say it should be very obvious!
