My question is can you take the box out in place? as in drop it from the bottom? I blew my previous 1 up and I got another 1 sitting there. Also is it worth getting the flywheel lightened 4 it?Any help would be greatly appreciated :D

There is a lot of information around about taking the box out, some swear it can be done in the car, some swear it can't. What it comes down to is the shaft which travels thru the transfer case and connects to the right hand driveshaft. This shaft gets stuck in either the gearbox or the transfer case depending on luck mainly. If it gets stuck in the transfer case then the gearbox will be able to slide out with the engine in the car, but if it gets stuck in the gearbox, the shaft is too long to be able to move the gearbox out far enough to clear the transfer case. So basically, you have a 50% chance of it working taking just the gearbox out. To me, taking the whole engine out is a much better idea. The engine is relatively easy to take out compared to trying to undo all the bolts around the bellhousing in my opinion - and once the engine is out theres no question if the gearbox will come out and its much easier to get to all the necessary bolts and nuts. If you are going to pull the engine think of doing the waterpump and cambelt.

Thanks :D I had no idea what I was doing. Is there a chance if I don't get the shaft out of the transfer box that I could pull that out with the gearbox, maybe?

Hey man, Ive done it both ways and must say its a crap load easier to drop the whole lot out the arse and part them on the deck.

And while its out do the cambelt, tensioner and idler bearings cause you'll hate yourself if you have to do it afterwards

Good advice, but don't forget the old leaky front main seal and the waterpump at the same time, Mr revhead can hook you up on all of these parts for a good price straight to your door :)
