tvis & turbo

Postby Ae92typeX » Tue May 25, 2004 7:22 pm

Ive just come to the discovery that the 1ggte is also in the tvis family!
At the moment ive got the engine in bits and are pondering over wether I will put the tvis back in upon reassembly.
What I was wondering, is for you guys who thave turbo'd 4ages, did anyone keep the tvis in?
Ive read that the vanes getting bend under pressure is a reasion not to, but clearly this wouldent be an issue as the 1ggte has it standard!
Im going to boost it a little, but not much so really im just wondering how much torque may be lost in removeing it??
Not really expecting any 1ggte answers, but 4age ones would be good enough!

i think matt tried with both in and out (on the dyno) and found that with it out there wasn't really any difference up top.

however with tvis in, there was more torque in the lower to mid rev range.

id say keep it in there.

toyota would have spent mega $ and tested tvis before using it in cars probably took 5 years of development so id say leave it in aye
best way would be get on a dyno and try it with and without it
might be different because its not a 4age head design ect ect

cheers...
yeah I think I will keep it. I guess it might be different if I was swapping to single turbo and upping the boost, but Im not going to be doing that this time round.
god knows I need the torque in this lead on wheels lol

On relatively stock power output I'd keep them in, but for anything over about 30% more than factory output, I'd scrap them. I have it unplugged on my Celica, so it's always open, and noticed very little change, just slightly longer spool up time but when the turbo does spool it doesn't feel like it's being choked until 4,500 rpm anymore. I plan to completely remove it (have a nicely ported out intake manifold awaiting installation), but like I said, if you don't want to go much over stock power then leave it in.

i used to have it in .... with small turbos ...
then i pullled it out with big turbos ...
now i put it back in again ... = much more drivable around town and mega torque and spool down low ...
diagnosis = tvis is the shizz0r and if your turbo vehicle already has tvis it must be a badass engine ..even a 3sgte can be badass with tvis :O
