i got a celica with 8inch speakers in the front door. Toyota class them as subs and i wanted to put 6 inch speakers in there place.
is this possible? and if so is it just a matter of connecting the wires together.

wouldn't sound too nice though unless you do some fibreglass resin work on it and make a pod or something.

same, cos your replacements are smaller than that of the original therefore you may need to do some work on it to fill in extra gaps and to make the screws fit cos obviously the original holes whill be too far out for your new screws to mount onto.

sweet as long as they work. i noticed you can buy speakers with adapters so they fit over pretty much any space

it can be done. ive done it. i put some 6" cdt classic. i just built 2 x spacers (for memory 2 x 12mm mdf spacers). made them the same diamer as the speaker box (8") and then made a 6" hole in the middle to mount them. i also deadend the doors and they sound fine. if i can find a pix ill put it up
