AE82 to AE101 Suspension Swap

Postby TURCEL » Mon Jun 28, 2004 11:34 am

Is it worth it? My current FXGT has a small rattle in the back and can pick up some AE101 struts for next to nothing. Or should I just save up and in a couple of months get some proper aftermarket ones?

Can they fit? I heard that the AE82 suspesion is different from the AE92+ suspension's. If not, how much work is required to make them fit?

The fronts will bolt in no problem, although the top plates need to be changed over, best to use the AE82 body and just replace the insert as there are very slight differences that make the camber adjustment a tad harder with the AE101 bodys in the AE82, the rears you will need to slot one of the bolt holes by approx 6~8mm, no biggie, again need to swap the top hats over, but the 101 struts are quite a bit taller than the 82 so it could sit a little high, can either get the shock piston shortened or maybe get away with some real low springs, I did this conversion in mine although as they were adjustable coilovers the height was not such an issue!

Failing that, i have a mint pair of rear KYB's out of my AE82 which have done maybe 15,000km's max (I put them in brand new) which i can sell you cheap
