Inercooler piping

Postby dreama » Tue Jun 29, 2004 10:54 pm

Hey i was looking into getting some intercooler piping made so that i cud intercool my 3TGTE. Bearing in mind that i cud fit it all myself i was wondering if anyone knew where i cud get the piping bent and welded etc... quite cheaply. Im in the Auckland area so if anyone has suggestions on where to go give me a PM. Any help appreciated :D
p.s. The quotes i have had so far have been $500 is this expensive or about right?

just go buy some straight piping and some mandrel bends prob a donut and cut it up your self, prob stick it together with race tape to hold it in place then mark it all so it can get welded correctly.

Depending on the complexity of the piping, you could try using straight pipe and rubber hose bends. You get the 90 degree bends from repco (they're designed for coolant and supposed to be tested to 15psi @ 100 degrees C) for about $15 each for 2 1/4 inch (biggest they sell), and then just by a metre length of stainless steel exhaust pipe. If you need less than a 90 degree bend then you can cut the rubber bend as needed. It's not perfect, and not as pretty as other methods, but it should work and is cheap. You may, however, want to get the ends of all the pipe you cut flared to help hold the hose on.
