Custom Gaskets - where do i get one from???

Postby solberg Fan » Sun Jul 11, 2004 1:29 pm

Hey, i have a 4k with modified inlet and exhaust ports and manifolds. I need to replace the one in there at the moment and can make up a template or even take the old one in. Ive herd people can make custom ones? where's a place in north auckland??
Also, it has higher compression and i dont know if it has a special head gasket (TRD). Did they ever bother making one for a 4k?? :?
Im taking the head of because the gasket is blowen, any things i should do while its off??
Thanks.
I just realised, this may have been better in the genral Q's....

unless the ports have been opened up excessively, the standard gasket should fit, repco/BNT etc should still stock them, failing that try Bowden Auto Parts in Kaitaia.

as for the head gasket, TRD don't make them for that motor anymore(havn't done for 10+years). while the head is off, make sure that it isn't crackedcausing the head gasket to fail.

make a gaskit from gaskit paper and use some gaskit glue
you can buy gaskit paper from most auto parts places

Badidas, don't you think it would be a bit hot on the exhaust for gasket paper and do you really think it would hold compression as a head gasket?

The old manifold gaskit seams to be ok, ive just taken the head off and found that the rocker shaft is broken! and the head gasket wasnt blowen. But i should get new head bolts ahy?? best to be safe?

as far as i'm aware, the early Toyota head bolts arn't torque to yeild (ie throwaway) . i've never had an issue with re-using them.however the 4AG/3SG etc need new bolts if the head comes off as they are TTY bolts
