engine problems

Postby toyopet » Wed Jul 21, 2004 9:35 am

Hi,im new to your site, but im sure someone out there will have the answer to my problem, ive recently bought a 1994 corona EX 2 litre auto, (import) and i notice the engine sounds rather tappetty, ie bit of a tappet noise from up top, i had the cambelt done, and the toyota agent said it sounded like injectors pulsating??, but i have a stethoscope, and listening to it at idle, it sounds like its coming from the front of the head, under the valve cover, just like a tappet, sounds like a diesel, the car performs well, but i would like to quieten this noise down, my previous car was a 1989 corona 3sf , and it was dead quiet, no noise at all, this ones a 3sfe, done 127,000 ks (on the clock) whether thats genuine???. ive looked at a UK website, and it seems to be quite a common point of discussion, but no one seems to have an answer, ive put injection cleaner in with the fuel, no improvement?? any ideas???

find out if your car has hydrolkic lifters or tappits
if it has hydrolic lifters try some promar mbl8 (?) might have to ask around workshops to find it
if it has tappits you might need to adjust em pretty simple just need a workshop manual, spanner, screwdriver, feeler gauge

peace
