engine bay wires

Postby minijrocks » Sun Aug 22, 2004 3:12 pm

Hi, do wires in the engine bay, such as alarm wires, need to be heat resistant or can any covered wires that you buy do? do they have to be special heat proof ones? (the wires are only around the back perimiter (firewall))

for what reason, wires in the engine bay dont get very hot at all really... and if they do, the things attached to them wouldnt work :P and ive never known of an ecu or alarm not working because the wires are to hot....

hot wires = high resistance, high resistance = no conductivity = no current :P

so i can just use standard wire like they use? pretty much like speaker wire? also, whats that heat shrink stuff? is it just to hold a whole heap of wires together? so its kinda organised?

heatshrink is usually used to insulate, eg, put it on the ends of leds (since they dont come with insulation) after soldering it to something, so it cant touch ground and short out.

i dont see why you cant use normel copper wire....

depends on what u want to use it for, an amp or something requires MASS cable... heaps of current.
