engine braking? clutch riding? wtf?

Postby CozmoNz » Mon Sep 06, 2004 12:26 am

Hey, after checking a few posts on this.... is this engine braking or what: (this is how i do it, but it seems people *use the clutch*)?

your going 50kph in 4th gear, you want to slow down, you release the throttle, push in the clutch (possibly tap the throttle to meet revs here), take foot off gas (for tappin), and hold it on brakes, push selector into 3rd, release clutch, revs slow down again, do it again right down to second, by that time i hold clutch in fully (fully disengagaed), and use the brakes.

so what is...

your going 50kph, in 4th gear, you want to slow down again, you release the throttle, push the clutch in, push gear selectror into 3rd gear (same as above so far), except when you release the clutch, you hold it at the grabbing point... the point where the revs BEGIN to rise.... so is that just riding the clutch or what? im getting the idea that people use this....

which sounds very bad.... i know my gfs mum does it, so does my mates gf... which means people do it on purpose if at least 2 ppl do it :).

so um... wtf?

First is engine braking, second is riding the clutch. Nothing wrong with engine braking at all, clutch riding is alright if you dont mind replacing clutches on a more regular basis than you would normally

the cource im on has a service where they pick you up only problem is the drivers found a liscence at the bottom of there weatbix packet
they make the same attempt at engine braking and now the clutch slips like a mofo they also scare the shite outa me to the point i want to find alternative transport

so in conclusion of my midnight rambelings number 2 is defenitly the clutchfucker teqnique same with the common miss-conception that keeping your foot on the clutch at the lights is ok cause the clutch is dissengaged (wrong) wrecks the thrust bearing in no time

peace
