4A EFI Conversion

Postby [intrcool] » Sat Sep 25, 2004 5:04 pm

I was thinking about whether it is possible to convert my little carbied 4A to an EFI 4A

Has this been done before, Can this be done, and what needs doing...

Can the 4age or 4afe injection assemblies bolt on? or am i totally clueless..

cheers

anything possible, but it would be annoying as shit.

you need 4age cylinder head, as the efi manifold wont bolt up to your carby one, then you need to get a exhaust from somewhere to suit the 4age. then you need fuel pump etc. its a pain in the ass. ecu to run it, wiring etc.

go with some nice twin sideys i reckon. love that sound.

if your cars got a carbed 4a then the most viable options probably just sell yours off and get a ae92 gt apex, or GT corolla.

may as well go gze. and if you do that may as well go turbo eh

will cost ya a bunch too.

good luck in your endevours

Amen.

Don't "convert" your car into something that you can easily buy. You will waste time, money, effort, and end up with something "non-standard" that insurance and WoF places will look at with suspiscion.

even if it did only cost you $600 and take you 10 hrs, id still just sell it and buy another one. less hassles. its like pidge says then you dont have the insurance, the wof the certing worries etc. besides he might not be up to it, and if he gotta pay a mechanic to do it its going to cost him a $&#$% more than 6 hundy

What engine did you take out and what did you fit back in?

Did you go from carbed to efi?

Took out 4A sohc carbed and put in Bluetop 4AGE. Got a WOF at VTNZ with no mention of a cert.

Cheap and easy upgrade if you ask me.

Im no mechanic either but I did my research and got the engine up and running before it went in the car to sort wiring issues etc as the car is my daily drive and couldnt be off the road for more than a day.

But yes if you arent too clued up on what needs to be done and how to do it then probably not worth paying someone to do it.

Guess what, if you have a insurance policy - it's void.
