Odd Creaking Noise On Old Skool Hiace

Postby Muzzie » Tue Oct 05, 2004 10:26 am

Ok, when I'm on full lock and go over a bump or something, or brake hard theres a long creaking noise coming from the suspension im guessing. My dads Hiace when he had it too had the same problem but he can't remember what caused it.

Anybody know whats causing it? And how to fix it.

It's definitely from the front and only on full lock, and I cant replicate the fault by rocking it in the driveway. It's got torsion bars on the front too.

its just the torsen springs, nothing to stress abooot, you could get under there and lube them, but tthen you would get grease/oil/spray on yourself.

I've been under there and lubed them already, because my first thought was the torsion bars, but it hasn't helped at all. Hmmmmmmm

Me supra does that occasionally at full lock reversing down the drive and over a bump. On mine its just the rubber bushes on the upper arm.

Yeah I need to be on full lock and rocking fairly considerably to make it do it as well, it sounds bad but dad said his did it for years and years and years and never had a thing go wrong with it.

Makes people look at ya funny though hehehe.

Most Hilux's creak when in full lock. My old mans 1994 does it. And my work 2003 does it. Nothing to worry bout really.

:) Dad remembered after reading that.

They apparently had a rubber/plastic cap on them and once they wear through it creaks.

Well at least I know it aint bad and damaging anything.

Thanks all
