ae92 electrics

Postby toymodifier » Sat Oct 30, 2004 1:39 pm

hi all

i have a 1988 gtz levin (basic as model, power mirrors but no power windows!) wondering if there is any difference in the construction of the door between 1988 and 1990? reason being i want to bolt some power window motors in but dont want to buy them and then realise they dont fit.

can i just bolt the window motors in place and use the manual glass and winder? and if not, how much are those universal kits and where do you buy them from?

feel pretty budget rocking up to McD's and manually winding my window down and having to lean half way across my car to wind the passenger window down on a hot day

any help greatly appreciated

Cheers

I mean you could get all the automatic electric windows out of a model with them, but are you sure you want to add all that weight? I would be stoked if I scored a model with manuel windows, light weight for racing!

I would gladly add extra weight to get electric windows aye i hate maual windows. surely they dont weigh that much more? its only a road car anyway, gets me to work etc and i only really race on the motorway when travelling into the city so thats f*ck all.

i got an interior lined up from a 1990 gt apex levin, MINT condition (mines fuct and all one colour - dirty grey) and want to change door cards over too so its all matching.

so the power window motors from a 1990 gt apex will bolt straight into a 1988 gtz? will i need the gt apex glass and scissor winder things too or can i use my current setup?

maybe ill just rip out the A/C to save some weight as it needs a regas anyway

It should bolt straight in, but you'll have all the wiring to deal with.

You can use your glass, but you'll need the funny connections etc for the windows, often they are slightly different actuation.

You're $&#$% kidding, right? You're talking a few kilo's at most. That's the difference between having a big breakfast before the race or not. Light weight for racing

OK, so you're assuming the standard roll up windows are weightless?

that is teh diffrence in weight between my roll up aw11 doors and my electric window doors

compleate doors
23kg dont sound much but if yu go around with this aprotch to the whole car it dont take long to cut serious wieght off

depends on what you want out of the car
cars are one big compramise

power for fuel economy and driveability and emmitions
sprung weight for comfort and nosie levels
handling for ride quality

and the biggest
what you pay and what you get
