ECU normal?

Postby Andy from the block » Fri Nov 05, 2004 1:09 pm

I had a problem with me AE101 GTZ where after the engine was warmed up it would sometimes stall and sometimes instead of stalling the engine went into a 'safe' mode (so im told) where the engine had almost no power (ie : codnt even go 40kmh up a slight hill). We tried to get the error codes from the ECU and it didnt work , we thought the ECU was faulty and I bought a another ECU from Mr Revhead. Since then everything worked fine...

Until now.
Recently the problem has come back, sometimes It takes 4-5 starts to start the engine, sometimes when driving normally it wod go into the 'safe' mode with the engine light on, and I wod have to pull over, but usually the problem fixed itself after I turned the car off for about 4-5 minutes the car went back to normal driving.

Today I checked the Error Codes from the Diagnostics box and it came up with the repeatedly flashing light at around 4 flashes a second with NO intervals. Looking at http://www.club4ag.com/faq%20and%20tech_pages/ECU%20Diagnostic%20Codes.htm it says this is when things are in 'normal operation' ???.
Did the ECU not record/remember the fault?
Whats going on?
Anyone got any ideas?

if tis ok then id suggest taking it into toyota and geting it plugged into thier diagnostics as the next step

Yeah its running fine normally, jst sometimes it plays up :(

I bought the ECU from you about 3 months ago I think.
What are the chances of my car having 2 faulty ECUs one after the other?
could it be something else appart from the ECU causing any of this? maybe wiring? sensors? ??

Hey Ive noticed my grounding wire from engine to engine bay looks pretty munted, the plastic conector is semi melted.

Could bad grounding be causing the ECU not to record the fault? or even contribute to the problems?
