Nemisis, See my picture? Surge tank sits about my ear height on top of the fuel cell. Radiator engine gearbox, CV's and all heat generating devices are feet behind the tank. There isn't any engine bay, its completely open. The fuel rail.... its a 20 valve setup with the heat isolating spacer in place. IE fuel system sits some distnace from the head. Becides it's relitively cool when the cell is full. The surge tank was considerably hotter than the rocker covers, I think you'll find that surge tanks heat up more because there is less fuel to circulate (especially if your low pressure pump doesn't circulate much back to the main tank!)
HRT, I don't have dyno plots as I'm not about to change the setup of my pumps to suit something that I know will do nothing but reduce HP. Dyno's cost money and I'm on a relitively low budget so chase known good practices. It's not theroy, its common sense. Its also well documented in most good performance books. Heating fuel isn't about to give you HP is it?
