Well I managed to get my tyres done today. Geez prices for stuff vary something fierce.
The thing I found the biggest difference in was a steering rack boot. My left one is gone, and like I said before it needs to be done. The mechanic quoted me $50 for a rack and labour. I reckon I could probably do the brakes myself if I had some tools, but I'm staying with my sister in Auckland, and my dad's tools are all in Invercargill. The $50 includes a boot and labour, but if I'm getting my brakes done at the same time, then I think that sounds a little expensive to me. I'm pretty sure when I did my GTO a few years ago in Invercargill we just used an ordinary universal steering rack boot to get it complied for NZ, but I couldn't find any at repco, all they had was a model specifically for my car but it was like forty something bucks. Can anybody clarify this for me? A UNIVERSAL boot exists right, and if it does then it shouldn't cost anywhere near as much and I can save a few more dollars getting my warrant.
