Tyres rubbing gaurds?? (AE82 Rolla)

Postby MINTFX » Wed Dec 15, 2004 9:00 pm

Hey, Ever since I put my new rims and tyres they have started to rub if im going round a corner quickly (I dont do that much  ) I cant be bothered going outside and checking the size of the tyres so I will post them later. Back to my point...... Has anyone had to do any inner gaurd beating or anything to get bigger rims and tyres and to lower there AE82 corolla, I have seen one with 17" stilletos and its been lowered. Any comments would be great as I want to lower it. Cheers

P.s do many peeps still meet in welly at 7? I am interested in coming along and meeting some of you guys.

Depends where its actually rubbing. Most people on getting bigger wheels and lowering will get the gaurds rolled which involved rolling that lip under the guard up under it further as thats where rubbage often happens.

iv been told by magwharehouse that you have to cut some of the lower spring holder thingy out coz tyres rub on that, dunno how true it is but hey, just my borrowed 2c
When in doubt, down and out.

If u are running the right offset wheel (35) then it will be rubbing at the top of the inner guard not the lip on the guards so the way around this is putting in a plastic plate under the spring which will raise u up 10 mm .
Otherwise if u have the wrong offset than u will be rubbing on the lip as well as the top so ur semi screwed .
But at the end of the day these cars just weren't really designed to take 17's but yeah ur best bit is the plastic plate that sits imbetween the spring and platform.
Autolign / The shock shop sell them if u want to get them :D

That bit moves in perfect relation to the tyre so if its clear of that by 2mm when you put the tyres on then it will always be clear when driving. If you try to put a set of rims on and its touching that then you can take to it with a big hammer to "mould" it to a better shape so you dont have rubber touching. Thats how my rims/tyres fit on without rolling gaurds.

what kind of rubbing do you get? is it a large section like the whole tyre hitting the inner guard? or just a small lip cutting into the tyre?

you shouldnt have any trouble if your tyre size and camber settings are right...

with regards to the meet, thats a question better asked in the wellington section, which is where the meet is, so you'll find out who goes, and who doesnt

Its just a quick scrap sound, It isnt wearing out the tyre at all. It happens when I have the steering on full lock aswell. Im going to have a better look today and see what I can do about it. Cheers for the comments.
