rattling/pinging sound

Postby minijrocks » Sat Dec 18, 2004 12:02 pm

Hi, i have a scraping/rattling/pinging sound coming from my engine (silvertop ae101 trueno) when accelerating or holding the rev at about 4500rpm then goes away then again at like 6000ish.
hasn't affect performance that i can tell.... any hints??

check the l/h engine mount. It on the top of the gearbox. Mine came lose and made a scraping sound underload.

Could it be the exhaust heat shielding? Dunno about the ae101, but on a lot of cars, this gets loose after a while and rattles around at certain revs.

yeh i might have a look at that.
i went to a mechanic today and he was busy but said without looking at it , it could be pinging. but iput 96/98 in so i cant see why it would be pinging. And if it was pinging, why would it happen at certian rev (under load) points

Yes it could be your timing, If you drive at about 50K's in 5th gear, then put your foot down. is the noise quite noticable then.

If its your timing it will be considerably louder when under heavy load

it doesn't make the sound when your not accelerating.
anythinng below 4500rpm and there is no sound what so ever. also when the engine is cold (start up in morning) it doesn't make the sound as loud if i took it up to 4500 revs
