well, they have the gearing for it. just like ae111's. which is a bad idea in an engine with not that much torque (3sge vs 3sgte... no toruqe :P).

top speed of an ae111 is like 240kph? the gearing can take it there, the engine cant :). so i guess its probable.... i dont belive its standard... hey AL, could your sw20 do 255ish?

Im not familar with the s54 box from the n/a, have a search on google for the ratios compared to the e153 box (turbo) ratios. Im pretty confident even a stock turbo sw20 could almost touch 250 without a limiter....provided you could keep it on the straight and narrow :)

I would eat my hat if an SW20 in standard form would pull 250kmh, the drag would be far too high.

If a standard SW20 did in fact pull 250kmh, once I finished eating my hat, I would buy an SW20 :)

Just because it's geared that high, doesn't mean that it can pull that theoretical top speed unless it was in a vacuum.

I hope you mean a stock NA SW20, or that your hat is made of cake or something :). I'm pretty sure a gen 3 turbo would be able to do it. FWIW I've seen 240kph in a near stock gen 1 turbo (on the track of course).

To answer the original question, no a stock NA could not do 250kph although I'm sure an indicated 255kph is entirely possible.

Mine is pretty much the same as the first mentioned one (except I have aftermarket 15" wheels).

I've reached 220kph so far..... I took my foot off after that....

well probbaly no one, a supra would get to 250 far quicker than you would and couldnt stay in his stream :), even a Mr2 turbo would blitz ahead >.>

so um... nothing? unless they wanted to do you a favour :P

and adamal, how long did it take you to get to 220?

As you do when you're doing somewhat ludacris speeds.

Like the time I had the Diamante up to 240 (well somewhere around that, maybe quicker - 180 off the clock and I had the needle back up against the zero post.

And when i got my dads van to 161 - Genuine! (Tracked Via Sat Nav GPS :))

I also do not condone these actions, that was in my younger days - before I turned 18........

me in my 20v

250plus in an mr2 has to be scary!! al reckons his is bad at 170 on the strip!! but then again his has soggy suspension with a heap of psi in the front tyres...

but id agree with nemisis, knowing how easily they hit 200 id say 250 is possible.... but i wouldnt want to try it

oh and another thing...
speed in accuracy.... its not unusual for speedos to be upto 10% out... thats 20kmh at 200kmh.....

GPS is probably the easiest way of getting an accurate speed when you go past the end of your speedo. You will probably find there is at least 5% error if you calclate it based on revs.

Yeah, I wouldn't believe any claims made from looking at a factory speedo, or from the "guessing how many cm past the 180 mark" the needle was at. Definitely at high speed, you're going to want to have a radar check or GPS check, rather than trusting a speedo.

I have a really useful photo I took of an XJS speedo sitting at an indicated 180mph (not kmh). Doesn't make it true :)

I think you'll find an SW20 turbo, even a gen 3 won't pull 250kmh.

Top speed of a N/A MR2 is 137mph (Which works out to be 210kph)

Id have to be modified a bit or going down a bloody steep hill to get 250 haha :P

I had my mr2, pod filter running 12psi, go off the 180km speedo in 4th and then hit the rev limiter in 5th gear. I'm not sure how fast that is, anyone got any ideas??? (all in controlled conditions)
