4agte sr coupe front suspension

Postby alvis » Sun Jan 23, 2005 7:15 pm

Hi guys i have a 78 sr coupe that i got $100 bucks origonal rust free pretty mint having only had only one owner, i am getting a gze and other stuff put into it.
She has had an accident that bent the chassis slightly and ruined the cross member (no damage to any panel work), it also bent up most of the suspension components.
I was wondering what sort of suspension setup i could use in the front, obviously it would be better to use something that had some decent discs and calipers on it. Would a JZA80 supra setup work? Also if you use a different strut how do marry the different components from the different cars together?
I also have a hilux diff to put in the rear which is five stud and i would prefer to go with five studs rather than 4.
The work is going to be done by mitech performance in Auckland once it comes out of the panel beaters, but i thought i would run it past you guys first.
I would greatly appreciate any advice you guys could give me on the suspension or project in general so I can source for parts etc. I have already acquired an import gze engine from a wrecker out west for $1000 with loom and comp.

Cheers - Alister

hey bud, good to see another ke-corolla in the works. well, ill tell u wat iv got in mine and then maybe u can get sum ideas from that. in the rear, theres not really alot u can do to enhance it bar stiffen the lot up. i reset/flattened my leaf springs and had 2 leaves added with a set of 2" blocks ontop. all up sits about 3" lower. monroe GT gas shocks, and a sway bar (from the ae86 the diff came out of). its got the ae86 disks on the rear. in the front i kept the original strut setup, chucked on a set of jamex coil-overs, new gt monroe inserts, pulled the front 4pot calipers off of a series 5 rx7, built up adapter plates for the calipers to mount on which bolt to the original hub assembly, drilled the rotors to fit the 4 stud pattern. used an rx7 master cylinder on the factory booster and they work quite mint. only problem is, becuase its so stiff, sticks like sh1t to a blanket on a smooth road, but the second u hit bumps/ruts/pot holes in the road its horrible, bounces around all over the show. the only way u can get around that is by going IRS or like 4link rear end.
