gt-4 celica engine, unless you got WADS of cash, u couldnt do it 4wd... only fwd :D which, a 2.0L turbo fwd..... would leave you with scraps of rubber for tires.

in saying that, i cant imagine it being all that hard a mod...

over in the states they do crazy swaps...

since my gf has a cynos ive been focusing on them, but heres a couple:

Image

3sge powered CYNOS... thats right... Hes now put the guages from the celica in, same with the seats... a cynos with an identity problem.

I had a pic of a 4age blacktop powered cynos too......

remember, these things came with 1.5's stock.... so if they can fit 2.0L engines in... im certain you could fit a 2.0L in a 1.6's engine bay :)

oh ill find the note that says what he had to do to fit a 4age in... quite amusing...

here we are:

Paseopimp wrote:i bought the motor, 5 speed tranny, wiring harness and ecu for 1600 (coil and ignitor as well but thats in the harness), yea im sure u can find it cheaper but its what i could find at the time. took the old 5e out in 1 day, marked all the vacuum lines and other miscellaneous hoses with #s. matched up the #s on the 4a. the biggest bitch was to get the thing in there level and centered, as everyone says you do need to notch out the drivers side frame rail about 3"s so in turn the motor has to be tilted alot to get it into the bay. i didnt think the header would fit but it did, i have about 3/8" between the radiator and the header, despite what ppl say about heat from the header on the radiator is bullshit. simple test is to let it run for about 10 minutes and see how warm the bottom of the radiator is, mine is always cold in fact the middle of the radiator gets slightly warm so the paseo radiator is more than sufficient to keep the 4a cooled. you CAN keep the power steering and ac compressor, on mine the power steering pump used was the 4a one, i had the shop at where i work make an extension to raise the connection on the pump up about 6"s so i could attach the line from the pump to the fluid tank. the ac i removed a few years back from the whole car but i can confidently say the ac pump will fit but as far as connection of the hoses i have no clue... the huge air box on the back i had to pund in a little to prevent rubbing on the heater core hoses going into the firewall, also i had to put 90 degree bends to have the heater hoses go from the firewall then directly to the drivers side, when the hoses went straight down the firewall the air box would crush the lines and no fluid would flow through. charcoal canister relocated to the pass side, u can see it in the pic. i have about 1" of clearance on the pass side between the frame rail and the pullys. the fan for the radiator had to be moved in front of the radiator, reverse the leads on the fan so it blows into the radiator, umm the fuel line on the paseo is too short, use any corolla fuel line, theyre about 6"s longer, perfect fit. shifter cables are too short by 1", we moved the shifter assembly in the car forward about 1.5"s, the shifter clears the headunit no problem, speedo cable for the paseo will interfere with the 4a shifter cables and is too short, use a corolla speedo cable. mine had a digital readout on the 4a so i took the paseo speedo assembly (what sits inside the tranny) and put it in the 4a fits perfect. i do get the error on diagnostics for speedo sensor not hooked up but it doesnt take any power away. have to relocate the battery to the trunk? bull, just build the mount right and slap a plate on top of it and put that battery on there, good to go... as far as the mounts im not going to get into that, like i said before its all about positioning, literally it took almost 2 weeks to get it in there perfectly. to make all the mounts angle iron works fine 1/4" or 5/16" thick, no less. theres only 3 mounts on mine and i have yet to have an issue, the motor doesnt rock at all. that fourth front mount isnt needed. so axles everyone wants to know, heres what we did (and when i say we i mean me and my buddy justin) got the motor mounted, took the old paseo axles, cut them in half, got some tubing to fit around the outside of the axle and welded both parts together to length, drivers side axle needs to be shortened about 3"s the pass side needs to be lengthened about 6". the paseo outer cv does fit into the 4a tranny, splines are the same. do not use the corolla cv's as they are actually smaller than the paseos, i dont know why but thats the case. once u get the length u need i sent mine to A1driveshaft in baltimore, sent them out on monday, got them back on a thrus, they are fast, and do excellent work. they took the axles we made to length and made new ones. chances are u wont get the axle out of the rzeppa joint so just send that too, theyll give u a new cage assembly. the axles did cost me 300. but it was worth it. as far as the electrical everyone can piss off, im not going to give that out at all but it can all be figured out from 2 websites. i think the one is phil bradshaws mr2 blacktop page, he has all the 4a connectors with pics and what the wires go to, i cant thank him or wheoever it is enough for that page. for the paseo wiring, dont use that ecu diagram, its useless.... the best site ever http://techinfo.toyota.com/ subscribe for 1 day yea its ten bucks but just download all the electrical diagrams u need. its toyotas site for all vacuum, electrical, whatever u need its there, definitely worth the ten bucks. the whole project took roughly 2 months, yea its alot of work but it was like 4hrs a day 5 days a week. countless trips to harrys u pull it... and the total bill for the entire project was about $2600, sure does beat byp price of 5000 plus ur having fun doing it, oh and there will be some frustration too

Welcome, have you posted in the New member section and made a profile?

Unless you are going to be doing alot of the work yourself, it isn't worth putting an engine into a car which was made from factory with it, i.e. the supercharger. You are better off buying the complete as you have all the orginal parts, the stronger gearbox and shafts, better brakes and the list goes on.

As for the blacktop, they are quite expensive, although dropping but is it really worth the effort for the gain?

The 3sgte into an ae101 has been done before, a google search should bring up the guys website. Was a burgandy coloured one from memory.

Of course things change for the top 2 options if you motor is dead. A friend has done a complete 4agze + drivetrain swap into a gt-apex. Think it cost ~$1300 for all the work and wiring (didn't include motor). After driving it with the gze engine I noticed a big difference over the silvertop. The reason he got it done was he crashed his gtz and bought it back from insurance incredibly cheap, running gear was still fine.

or easier option:
rebuild the silvertop with 4agze pistons and turbo it, cheaper and easier!

i'm in the same boat with my trueno. depends how much money you want to throw at it really. decent blacktops with box ecu loom etc go for approx 1700 but expect to pay upwards of 2g for a bzr blacktop with a 6 speed (what i'm hanging out for)

but just food for thought if you say it can't be 4wd;

check this out

also see the feature in nzpc a while ago on a gt300-widebodied levin running a 3sgte.

never say never!!anything is possible with the right knowledge!

Dude, you're giving someone advice from a 4 year old thread? :?
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.
