corolla 4agze

Postby scape » Thu Feb 24, 2005 11:05 pm

Hi all,

Have not been able to find any specific info so I thought id ask...

Im lookin at buyin a 92 corolla sedan thats got a 4agze in it...

supposedly its all been done professionally (with receipts)
though no cert

car done around 100000k, engine 60000k

but it needs sum work:

cv joints:
apparently the cv's need replacin: could this be cos theyre from outta the corolla and are weaker, or just cause of their age? is there any difference between cvs from different models? gona call a few shops 2mrw 4 quotes but whats a ballpark figure for replacement?

brakes:
apparently theyre heating up. any suggestions on why? dont you need to upgrade brakes to get certification with this type of conversion/increase in power

speedo cable:
needs some wiring done. Is there any major issues with wiring and looms with this type of conversion?

sorry I dont know what specific model corolla and I havnt looked at it yet...
just tryn to do a little research before I get too interested.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Well assuming its got a GZE gearbox it\ll have the GZE half shafts and CVs in which case they're about $115 or so trade price, $150 probably for retail. The usual Corolla CVs should be less than that. As for replacing them, probably looking at an hour and bit.

Brakes could be anything, cheap crappy pad, rotors might be undersize, brake fluid way overdue for a change etc

Whats wrong with the speedo? If its just not going at all the cable could be broken

ok....

Just looked at and drove the car...

Engine is a 4agze out of an ae92
the wiring loom is out of the donor car
and since the car runs pretty good im assuming its all good apart from the speedo, temp etc...so most/all of the dash gauges not working...

The brakes along with the suspension have been upgraded to gtz on the front... however the problem is with the front passenger side where the brake seems to be sticking...hence why it is overheating....my guess is sumthin to do with the brake lines or fluid...possibly not being bled properly when changed?
also quite noticeable whilst rolling with clutch in...seemed to slow down quite quickly...and after driving for around 5 mins the brakes got quite hot (and smelly)

Cvs are out of the car so kinda obvious why theyre shot...

Engine idles well and not a whiff of smoke from the exhaust....
But as the revs climb it starts makin a squelling noise ...not unlike some of the sequential bovs kickin around...
Sounds freakin mean...but ive never heard a gtz sound like that and i couldnt see any sign of a bov...so what could that be? loose belt??

So anyway....would it be fair to say im lookin at around:

- $500 for reconnection of dash wiring?
- bout $500 for new brake pads and brake bleed
- and according to post above im lookin at bout $500 for gtz cv replacement?

pretty rough... but too high? too low?

any comments appreciated
