gearbox fluid for crunchy gearbox

Postby ChaosAD » Thu Mar 10, 2005 6:30 pm

I have a crunchy gearbox ( worn syncros ) and want to put something in it to smooth it up a bit.

I heard something about 'dextron III' is this just automatic trans fluid?

Is it as goos as royal purple, redline etc?

Few guys on here have had ATF work to fix crunchy gears for a while. Not a whole lot of point buying performance gearbox fluids if your gearbox is rooted is there?

yuup dextron III is just atf,
atf works well, is a lot thinner and gets around easier bit like a good girl on a friday nite.

i wouldnt bother with any expensive additives,

ATF it is then.

Yup ive heard of people putting banannas in their gearbox/diffs etc to make then quieter when trying to sell a car.
I think they put sawdust or something on the water to seal blown headgaskets too.

I have been running a dexron 3 atf fluid in my blacktop gearbox for quite a while now.

The synchros operate much better now but it still pays to be a bit slower on the changes.
