Idle issues on 3S-GE

Postby Carl » Fri Apr 01, 2005 1:27 pm

Bizzard idleing when warming up and when breaking. Warm idle is ok at standstill though. The revs sit at 1500 (is this too high in any case?)when warm and under breaking pulse down to 1000 then back up. It also does it when decelerating using the foot break but stops when the car is stationary.
Someone mentioned it could be an idle up sensor and another mentioned wax build up in the cold start system???
And i'm too much of a @#$%ing noob to know what the heck is going on.

Can any one shed light on my emotinal unstable car please???

Sounds like an air leak. Check to ensure that all the hose/pipes are intact and nothing has come loose/disconnected.

would that explain the high idle revving? I'm also assuming that if there is an auto choke issue, the fuel consumption (which i have noticed) will be high as mixture is contantly rich?

It could also be spark plugs, or an airflow meter (I don't know if 3SGE uses an airflow meter?)

it will be an air leak, specially if it is fluctuating when you pump the brake peedle. check the intake pipe and all of your vacuum pipes.
Another thing to do is get sump CRC and spray the pipes and see if the idle changes when you spray it it will indicate which pipe it is then.
and being a manual your idle speed should be round 750rpm aswell.

I'll look into it. The odd thing is that it doesnt alter when the car is standing still. Yes, my 3s-ge (88 Celica) does have an airflow meter.
Thanks for all your feedback and comments!!
