Just because its says "NEW POSTER" doesnt mean jack. Just because Iam not on here every 5mins posting crap doesnt mean I know nothing. What more do you want to know? If you are after more power get a larger catalytic converter from a larger capacity vehicle or a performance cat, if you want noise replace mufflers with free flowing ones. Just remember its only a matter of time and certain vehicles will require working catalytic converters for WOF

Here some info for you:

A catalytic converter is a device that uses a catalyst to convert three harmful compounds in car exhaust into harmless compounds.

The three harmful compounds are:

* Hydrocarbons (in the form of unburned fuel)
* Carbon monoxide (formed by the combustion of fuel)
* Nitrogen oxides (created when the heat in the engine forces nitrogen in the air to combine with oxygen)

Carbon monoxide is a poison for any air-breathing animal. Nitrogen oxides lead to smog and acid rain, and hydrocarbons produce smog.

Most of the CAT converters are useless in NZ, because they life span is a few years depends on how clean fuel is, what condition engine is, if the car is running right etc.. If car consumes oil and running rich there is no way the cat will run for long..
Basically the average age of the vehicles in NZ is too old to have a working cat converter..
So if it is stuffed just take it out and put a resonator in, when the pollution law comes in chuck a new one in... Anyway it is to late to save the earth and NZ from polution, this had to be started 100 years ago, not now...it is just like a fart tax - ridiculous

The rasp from a bluetop 16v in an AE86 is sexual.

Probably due to the resonator gone rather than the cat.

And yes most of the cat's inn NZ vehicles are so old and stuffed that they do not work properly now anyway.
Go and stand behind a new car with and efficient cat that is up to temp and you will smell the cat working.

On my 20V i unbolted the cat and removed the insides, and put the box back in. Wait for a couple of weeks for it to carbon up and bit and it takes the rasp away.

lol, I was just gunna talk about the technical side of things :P Funny thing is Diesel engines are a lot kinder on the environment, Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) is the only bad one with diesels as they run around 22:1 comp ratios which obviously creates a lot of heat!

I've been told by a few clients (Workshops that do WOF's) that a Catalytic converter is soon to become a requirement for a Warrant of Fitness.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.
