Postby Corona » Sat Apr 09, 2005 4:21 pm

Is it posable to turn the outlet of the turbo so that insted of the outlet pointing to the top of the engine, it points down?

yes. remove the circlip on the back of the compressor housing, remove housing, look at the back of it, see that little pin sticking out where it seats against the outer ring of the center section? you will just need to file a new slot for this to suit the new position, then reinstall it, easy.
but...you then have to alter the wastegate actuator bracket, which is a bit more difficult

Thanks All fours, If I go down the track of an A/A IC, then I might look at that.

As a side issue, were you the one that sold Chickenman the 3S-GTE?

I did that on mine with the old turbo/ic set up, no idea what it would be like on a corona but in the celica it was quite tight around the front engine mount so make sure you position it with the turbo on the car, rather than just guestimating the position.

And yes, I did sell Toby the engine, have you had it running yet?

Na, I have taken it out of the ST171 that he was putting it in, and am going to do the install on my ST191 at the end of this month.
I am still not descided on either front mounting the A/A or getting a W/A intercooler as yet. I'm looking for the easiest solution at the moment.
Do you know how long that the engine as been without running?

I can't even remember how long it's been since I sold it, must have been about the middle of last year? I really don't remember though. I would advise putting a little oil down the spark plug holes to help the rings expand, and crank the engine without the coil connected for a few moments to build up oil pressure before you start it for the first time.

Yea, I got it cranking before I pulled it out of the car untill the oil pressure light went out.

Toby, the leak was the HP line to the Turbo, was only finger tight, got the bar onto it, and should have solved the problem.

It was lucky that you never got it running otherwise you would have ceased it very quickly.
